About National Love Your Pet Day
National Love Your Pet Day is observed on 20 February in the United States as an informal day for appreciating companion animals and the relationships people build with them.
Repeated New York State Senate records use the February 20 date in conjunction with National Love Your Pet Day, providing institutional evidence for the modern observance without establishing its national origin.
Why National Love Your Pet Day matters
The day can be used to focus on responsible pet care as well as affection: appropriate food, exercise, identification, veterinary care, enrichment and safe living conditions all contribute to animal well-being.
State legislative recognition is best understood as later recognition of an existing observance. It should not be converted into a claim that New York or any individual legislator created the national day.
