About International Day of Plant Health
The International Day of Plant Health is observed on 12 May to raise awareness of how protecting plants supports food security, biodiversity, trade, livelihoods and environmental health.
The day is a legacy of the International Year of Plant Health and is organized within the UN system with a prominent role for the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Why International Day of Plant Health matters
Plant pests and diseases can move across borders through trade, travel and changing environmental conditions. Prevention, monitoring and international phytosanitary standards are therefore important parts of plant health.
Plant-health awareness is not a reason to recommend indiscriminate pesticide use. Responsible management should follow local agricultural, environmental and plant-protection guidance.
